With interest rates still reasonable, it's still a good time to purchase a new home but why fight over existing houses when they come on the market?  You can build and have a brand new, more energy efficient home, with the all the things in it you want.  The efficiency of the new houses is pretty impressive so if you do buy a 5, 10 or 20 year old home it could end up costing you the same per month as new, especially if the maintenance wasn't kept up.

Be smart about certain areas and take the time to do your homework before you jump in and buy something you might regret.
